A Celebration of Service, Friendship and New Beginnings
Plymouth International Rotary recently came together at the historic Pier Master’s House on Plymouth’s Barbican to celebrate the end of an unforgettable Rotary year and look ahead to an exciting new chapter for the Club.
Members and friends travelled from across the South West - including Exeter, Torquay, Redruth and Newquay - to celebrate with our member, Sam Cross, as she concluded her year as District Governor for Devon & Cornwall (South West Peninsula).
On what turned out to be a scorching summer’s day, everyone enjoyed the chance to catch up, share memories and celebrate a remarkable year. Sam reflected on her Rotary journey, speaking about the highlights, the friendships made and the more than 8,000 miles she travelled visiting clubs across Devon and Cornwall. She also thanked the many people who supported her along the way, including past District Governors and mentors Simon and George.
The afternoon also provided an opportunity to recognise outstanding service. Simon was presented with a Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow recognition in appreciation of his continued commitment to Rotary and the support he has given over many years.
Looking ahead, President Ricky Callow shared his vision for Plymouth International Rotary, inspiring everyone with the Club’s exciting plans for the year ahead, new community projects and a continued commitment to making a positive difference.
Looking around the room, it was clear what Rotary is really about. There was a genuine sense of kindness and compassion throughout the afternoon, with everyone encouraging one another, celebrating each other’s achievements and looking forward with a shared sense of purpose. Family members also came along to support and join in the celebrations, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. There was plenty of laughter, lots of conversation and, helped along by some wonderful food, everyone simply enjoyed spending time together. It was a fitting way to celebrate the end of one Rotary year and the beginning of another.
